Club history:

Have you ever wondered where we get our name from? Following the coastal bombing of Britain in the Second World War, production of the Supermarine Spitfire was moved to South Marston which lies just on the outskirts of Swindon. Here, a total of 121 Spitfires were built along with additional modifications for earlier aircraft for naval action (named the Seafire). In 1950, Vickers bought the factory and continued to test and modify new aircraft on the purpose-built airstrip (w…hich is now the Honda test track) and Supermarine Sports club was founded. We bear the name and uphold the legacy of Supermarine, a company which made a substantial contribution to the war effort. Here at Supermarine RFC, we are immensely proud of our history and heritage

About the Author:

My name is John ‘Max’ Maxwell and I am the MD of RuckinRugby, a website design and hosting company focused on all things Rugby. Rugby is a huge part of my life and after meeting Catherine Spencer some years ago, I became interested in the women’s game at the highest level.

The World Champion team of 2014 were something very special and I immediately became aware of how important our domestic game would become in maintaining the sort of national side that I, and many others love to watch. This inspired me to do whatever I can to promote Women’s Elite Rugby in England.
