Rob Cain, head coach of Saracens Women, said:
“We are really excited to be part of the first ever Women’s Premiership 7s. It’s going to be a great event for the whole club, and gives the players a well-deserved opportunity to showcase women’s rugby in a fun and exciting environment.
We have been using the sevens format throughout the summer as a development tool for players to work on their core skills under pressure, such as handling and decision making. This has really benefited the group, as it has allowed us as coaches to help the players to identify the areas they can work on.
The girls have been enthusiastic and eager to learn so we’re hoping this tournament will see a culmination of our hard work and how far players have progressed.”
Dominic Hayes, Commercial Director at Premiership Rugby, added:
“Having the Women’s Premiership 7s Final during the Singha Premiership Rugby 7s Final is ground-breaking and will provide an exciting addition to the event.
Sixteen England internationals have represented their clubs in the 7s, which is proof that these tournaments are a great opportunity for fans to see the next generation of superstars coming through from the men’s and women’s teams.
These finals take place a day after the Olympic 7s kick off in Rio, so interest in the sport will be high and we are hoping for the biggest Singha 7s crowd yet at the Ricoh Arena.”
